Want to search for information on a teacher’s license?

The Board of Educational Examiners’ website has a search function which will enable you to search for information on a teacher’s, coach’s, or administrator’s license.  Go to

You will then type in the person’s name.  You do not have to have the person’s folder number but it does narrow the search.  You will be able to see the person’s license to determine if it is valid and will be able to review the endorsements the person holds.

Praxis Test will be required for all Iowa graduates

Legislation was passed this last session which will require individuals who complete an Iowa teacher preparation program to pass an approved content and pedagogy test in the individual’s subject area above the 25th percentile.   The Iowa Department of Education is developing the list of approved tests for each endorsement and is posting the cut score for these tests based on a three year national data set.  Once this information is finalized, the tests and cut score information will be provided to all Iowa colleges and universities that prepare teachers.  The Board of Educational Examiners will include this information on the BOEE website since a person who earns a teaching degree on or after January 1, 2013, will not be able to be recommended for an Iowa teaching license until this requirement is met.
